Just some words off a page
And in my head they scream
Not just my heritage
They're damning to me
Sprung from corruption
And livin' off of the muck
Those twisted roots still function
They're what's holding me up
Now a confession lodges in my esophagus
It's just rude to cough up on a fresh made acquaintance
But i can't help it sometimes
And i try to reel em on in
Even as I get the sense
They've got no use for my fictions
I can still picture the kid
Hear how he must've sounded
I'm burnin all I hid
What i thought was profound then
O vigilance - when you sense
That you're the aggrieved
Keep givin offense and the shame
Regenerates eternally
Always sayin the wrong thing - hey Craig that's not a disease
No wonder i got popped - I was takin some liberties
Who can say how they come across?
It's always "what the world's doin to me"
I'm chokin on the thanks
For what i've unwittingly received
You might have all the answers right at your fingertips
Might have heard it all before and not let it in
Might even know the reason you feel so conspicuous
Might be impossible now to start all over again
You might have failed to live in the light
Might be a petty player in the biggest crime
Might identify falsely as a part of the fight
It might be wrong to think there's still some time
You might always be searchin for an easier route
Might have a bad habit of tuning other people out
Might be damning explanations for avoiding the crowds
Might not be good to be allergic to feeling proud
You might have trained for cross-culture encounters
You might change the atmosphere of rooms you enter
Might be your gravity's makin people's loads heavier
You might want to disappear but might be needed here
Just some words off a page
And In my head they scream
Not just my heritage
They're damning to me
